Veteran Defender Signs New Deal

Bardsley joined Burnley in 2017 from Stoke City on a two year deal, and this is now the third time that contract has been extended. Bardsley is now the latest Clarets player to sign a new deal after recent new deals were agreed with Kevin Long, Erik Pieters, Matt Lowton and Johann Berg Gudmundson. The new contracts are a huge success for manager Sean Dyche as it means that the main players in his squad have all committed their immediate futures to the club.

Bardsley has only appeared three times for Burnley this season as Lowton has impressed and kept the 35-year-old defender on the bench.

400th Appearance Nears

As well as Stoke City, Bardsley has played for Sunderland, Manchester United, Aston Villa, Rangers, and Sheffield United as well as collecting 13 caps for Scotland. He is now closing in on 400 club career appearances.

Sean Dyche Praises Bardsley

Dyche is aware that Bardsley is having to bide his time for playing minutes but has praised the players’ attitude, telling the club’s official website: “Bardo is a top professional. He is lean, fit and hungry. I think when players in front of you are delivering you have to bide your time and I think we have a healthy respect here for that kind of thinking.

“Players obviously knock on my door and want to play but sometimes they see it with their own eyes that the player in their position is playing well and therefore I am going to have to wait for my chance and be ready when it comes.”
