Inter Milan CEO Beppe Marotta discussed Inter Milan’s transfer dealings on deadline day, claiming no one will be on the move.
He stated that a swap deal involving Alexis Sanchez and Roma’s Edin Dzeko will not be happening, as he told TMW that there was “a bit of audacity on the part of the agents of the two players”.
The final rumour that Marotta put to bed involves Christian Eriksen, who is regularly linked with a move away but is now set to stay with Inter.
Inter Milan CEO Ends Transfer Rumours
Ivan Perisic Not on the Move
Perisic was lined up by Everton as a replacement for Bernard. The Brazilian winger is set to complete a move to the UAE. The Toffees will have to move on to other targets.
If they don’t, young winger Anthony Gordon could feature more heavily for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.
Sanchez and Dzeko Swap ‘Never Advanced’
A straight swap deal between Roma and Inter for Dzeko and Sanchez has been reported for almost a week but this deal is now off the table according to Marotta. He has effectively ended the transfer window for Inter.
Marotta cites the COVID-19 pandemic as an ongoing factor in negotiations: “We are faced with an extraordinary event. The pandemic has had a strong impact and the model of the past is not sustainable. We will not entertain any negotiations for big transfers and big salaries.”
Eriksen Going Nowhere
The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder seemed set for a transfer early in the window. He will now spend the rest of the season helping Inter push for the Serie A title.
Eriksen’s professionalism is a factor in him staying at the club: “Conte had an intuition in changing his role and Eriksen himself is a serious professional.”
With one swoop the Inter CEO ended three transfer stories that were expected to rumble on all day.
