Celtic could sign Preston North End player Ben Davies this month, according to Lyall Thomas of Sky Sports.
Celtic Keen to Seal Deal for Ben Davies
Out of Contract in Summer
The defender is out of contract at Deepdale in the summer and although the Lilywhites would like to keep the centre-back at the club, there was plenty of interest in his services, with many teams trying to sign him on a pre-contract agreement.
One of these sides was reportedly Celtic, who were keen to tie him up on a deal that would see him join the club for absolutely nothing at the end of the current campaign.
However, reports have now emerged claiming that the Scottish Premiership side want to sign Davies this month and that could mean paying a fee for the player in a bid to have him for the remainder of the season.
One of Preston’s Best Defenders
It could certainly be a fee worth paying. Davies has proven to be Preston’s best defender over the course of his time at Deepdale and many fans and staff at the club will be reluctant to see the player leave.
He remains one of their most important players and Celtic have clearly been impressed with the centre-back and believe the same as a lot of people associated with North End, as they want to do business now to secure his services for the rest of the current campaign.
The defender has played 135 league games for North End over the course of seven seasons with the Championship side.
Celtic Eager to Seal Deal Ben Davies Deal
It was the season after his loan spell at Fleetwood Town that he truly burst onto the scene with the second-tier side and he has continued to improve both his defensive efforts and his ability with the ball at his feet.
Celtic now want him to help them push on and try and claw back some of the gap between themselves and Rangers and are reportedly willing to part with money now in a bid to have Davies for the rest of the season, rather than waiting for a free transfer in the summer window.
