Northampton Town Sign Peter Kioso on Loan From Luton Town

Northampton Town have completed the loan signing of Luton Town defender Peter Kioso.

The 21-year-old spent the first half of the season in League Two with Bolton Wanderers and was one of the few shining lights in what has so far been a disappointing campaign for the Trotters.

He joins a Northampton side who are in the relegation zone of League One until the end of the current season.

What Was Said?

On the signing, Cobblers manager Keith Curle said: “Peter is a player we have been tracking for some time and have been very impressed by.

“He was on our radar before he went out to Bolton, we monitored his performances there, he did very well for Bolton and has shown excellent progression in his career.

“He has both power and pace, he is a good athlete and he can play in any role down the right-hand side as a wing-back or a full-back.

“He is a threat going forward, he has good defensive qualities too and he will add to our squad.”

Career So Far

Kioso started out in the youth academy of Northampton’s near-neighbours, Milton Keynes Dons, and after a spell in non-league with Dunstable Town, he was picked up by National League outfit Hartlepool United.

After two seasons in the North East, he returned down south to sign for Luton, but after being dubbed as “one for the future” by then-manager Graeme Jones, he was loaned to Bolton for the first half of the 2020/21 season.

Despite Bolton’s lowly league position under Ian Evatt, Kioso was a bright spark and managed to contribute three goals in just 14 games from right wing-back.

The Dublin-born defender is ineligible to feature against Fleetwood Town tonight due to being signed after the deadline but could make his debut this weekend against Wigan Athletic.
