Charlton Move Intends to Revitalise Jayden Stockley
The 27-year-old has struggled to establish himself at Preston as the out-and-out goalscorer he once was, with the main intention of such a loan move, being to help the striker find his confidence in front of goal.
Stockley has only scored eight times since joining from Exeter City in January 2019, a return that needs to be improved if he intends to stay at Deepdale this summer. Although the physical forward offers a lot more than just finding the back of the net in a results-based business, it is ultimately the lack of goals that is letting the towering striker down.
It is a move that makes sense for Preston too, Charlton possess quality attacking players who will be able to supply Stockley with the opportunities he needs to find his confidence in front of goal once more.
Not Necessarily a Sensical Move From a Charlton Perspective
For The Addicks, the problem does not lie in their goal-scoring abilities. In fact, only Hull City and Portsmouth have scored more than the South London club in League One this season. The issue at Charlton is their leaky defence and is something that Addicks’ fans are adamant on addressing first. Additionally, only Plymouth Argyle have conceded more goals than Charlton, amongst teams in the top half this season, highlighting a need for Lee Bowyer to move quickly before the window shuts on February 1.
It seems that The Addicks have not recovered from losing Tom Lockyer to Luton Town at the start of the season, and the declining form of Jason Pearce, means that The Addicks have a glaring need to recruit defensive reinforcements as soon as possible.
