After agreeing to terminate his Arsenal contract, Mesut Ozil has arrived in Istanbul to officially complete a move to Turkish side Fenerbahce as a free agent. The German leaves Arsenal having had a mixed spell at the club.
When he first arrived, Ozil was arguably one of the best-attacking midfielders in the world- and he soon proved this statement by assisting 19 Premier League goals during his second season at the club.
Seven years on from his arrival, though, and Arsenal’s dream signing has turned into a nightmare with the midfielder failing to be included in Mikel Arteta’s squad this season despite being the highest earner at the club.
The aforementioned nightmare has finally reached its end with the German close to completing a move to Fenerbahce on a free deal.

Chance to Star Once More
Even at 32-years-old, Ozil has the talents to transform the attacking capabilities of any team. And, after being frozen out at Arsenal this season, the former Madrid man will be desperate to get back playing regularly.
In Turkey, he has the chance to prove a point; a point that he is still capable of producing passes many midfielders could only dream of executing.
As for Fenerbahce, who are currently level at the top with Besiktas on 35 points in the Turkish Super Lig, they’ll be delighted with the move. A player of Ozil’s quality doesn’t usually come cheap, let alone for free- leaving the Turkish club in the best position to take the title.
Ozil- even as he approaches the latter stages of his career- still possesses the quality to play on Europe’s biggest stage, so should take to Turkish football with ease.
As a whole, both parties- Arsenal and Ozil- will be glad to go their separate ways after a torrid few months.
