League Two side Crawley Town are close to signing James Tilley following his release from Grimsby Town, according to the Football Insider.

Recent Release From Grimsby Town
James Tilley has emerged as a transfer target for League Two rivals, Crawley Town. The 22-year-old was released from Grimsby earlier this week after falling out of favour under new manager Paul Hurst.
The striker only joined the Mariners last January from Brighton & Hove Albion, following loan spells at Cork City and Yeovil Town, and was enjoying his football under Ian Holloway. But following Holloway’s departure from the club, Tilley found game time hard to come by.
The 22-year-old netted two goals from 25 appearances. He was substituted off in Hurst’s first game back before being omitted from the squad in the game against Port Vale, which resulted in his departure by mutual consent.
Max Watters’ Imminent Departure From Crawley Town
Crawley manager John Yems is looking for a replacement for striker Max Watters, who is close to a seven-figure sum move to Championship club Cardiff City.
The striker has netted 13 goals from just 14 League Two games this season, with 16 from 18 in all competitions.
Naturally, the departure of Watters will leave a gaping hole in attack and Tilley’s goalscoring record isn’t as good as the Cardiff bound forward. In fact, the forward has only netted 18 times from 160 career appearances. However, the Red Devils need reinforcements and the striker has experience at this level.
Crawley in League Two
Tilley has left with the Mariners in the bottom two and he’ll be heading to a side seventh in the table. The Red Devils are looking to secure promotion to League One for the first time since 2015.
Yems’ side occupy the final playoff spot and, although there are several sides just behind them in the table, are only four points off the top three.
