Goalkeeper Ben Hamer has joined Swansea City on a short-term deal until the end of the season. Hamer has been playing second fiddle at Huddersfield Town this season and, with his contract due to expire in the summer, The Terriers were happy to allow the 33-year-old to leave for free to get his wages off their books.

Second Choice at Huddersfield
The stopper started the season as Huddersfield’s number one goalkeeper and has made 15 Championship appearances this season. However, has fallen down the pecking order in recent weeks.
Twenty-one-year-old Ryan Schofield and Manchester United loanee Joel Pereira both moved ahead of Hamer in manager Carlos Corberán’s plans and, as such, Hamer was expected to move on.
He joins a strong Swansea City side that are looking to gain promotion to the Premier League this season. The Swans are second in the table, four points behind leaders Norwich City, and have only lost one of their last eight league fixtures.
It is unlikely Hamer will be the first choice at his new club but he will provide competition for Freddie Woodman, who has played all but one of the South Wales club’s Championship fixtures this season.
Woodman is 23, while other first-team goalkeepers Steven Benda and Lewis Webb are 22 and 19 respectively. Therefore, Hamer will bring valuable experience to the goalkeeper position at the club and, with 11 clubs in his career to date, he should be able to provide plenty of guidance to his teammates.
It is likely that the injury to Benda, who is usually the second choice, forced Swansea to spring into action and find a low-cost alternative.
Benda is expected to miss up to seven months with an ankle injury and bringing Hamer on a free could prove to be an astute piece of business even if it is only a short-term solution.
