Mesut Ozil Transfer Decision Yet to Be Made, Says Boss Mikel Arteta
Ozil Close to Arsenal Exit
The German midfielder has six months left on his deal at the Emirates and, with the January transfer window now open, he can talk to clubs regarding a move on a free transfer in the summer.
Ozil has been left exiled by manager Mikel Arteta after leaving him out of both his Premier League and Europa League squads. The highest-paid player at Arsenal at £350,000 a week, Arsenal will be hoping to get his significant wages off the books.
Ahead of Thursday’s game against fellow Londoners Crystal Palace, Mikel Arteta was asked about the Ozil situation which he responded with: “I don’t know what’s going to happen. He is now free to negotiate with other clubs.
“We will discuss internally which will be the best decision for him in the near future. We will try to find the best solution for everybody.”
Right for All Parties
The 32-year-old playmaker was registered for Saturday’s FA Cup win against Newcastle United but was left out because of his current situation.
Arteta added: “We know we have a really important player that is one of the key players in the past few seasons for this football club. We had to make a decision I had to make a decision I made it. I knew the consequences of it.
“And now we will have to make another one in January, and we will just put in the balance what is best for the team, what the intentions are of the player. And try and find the right solution for that.”
The German World Cup winner has not played for the Gunners since the 1-0 victory over West Ham United on March 7, 2020.
