With David Silva moving on last summer, many expected Phil Foden to take the burden of creativity within the Manchester City side. Yet, here we are, approaching the halfway point of the Premier League season with Phil Foden starting just one of the last ten Manchester City Premier League games, and is lacking the crucial playing time.
And, according to the Telegraph, Foden is becoming increasingly frustrated by this lack of game time. He was meant to be the next in line for the crowning of the creative source under Guardiola. Instead, he has failed to progress- still stuck on the same City bench he has so often found himself on in the past.
As Foden watches the likes of Curtis Jones receive start after start, too, this reported frustration will continue to grow.
Foden Frustrated by Lack of Manchester City Playing Time
Foden Needs Minutes for Euro 2021 Place
For the first time in a long time, England have another golden generation to pick from. Gareth Southgate’s plethora of young talent to call upon is arguably greater than ever heading into Euro 2021- from Jack Grealish, Mason Mount, Phil Foden and even Curtis Jones.
And that’s where Foden could begin to face some unwanted issues. Whilst the likes of Grealish, Jones and Mount are handed starting births- in which they often impress from- Foden is left watching from the Manchester City bench- denied the opportunity to persuade Southgate for that all-important call next summer.
Foden’s talent is there for all to see, and Manchester City must utilise it. The Manchester club have failed to replicate last season’s fortunes in front of goal so far this campaign- netting the least amount of goals in the top half of the Premier League- and are in desperate need of a fresh creative source in which Foden can provide.
They must hand the 20-year-old the playing time he needs to not only increase his chances of a place in England’s Euro 2021 team but to increase their own chances of success on the pitch.
