Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that captain Jordan Henderson and Trent Alexander-Arnold are both still injured, and will miss Sunday’s game against Leicester City.

Henderson and Alexander-Arnold Absences Add to Lengthy Injury List for Liverpool

Klopp Hints Fabinho and Thiago Alcantara Could Be Fit for the Weekend

Henderson’s absence comes after the midfielder pulled out of England duty earlier this week, after picking up an injury against Belgium.

Alexander-Arnold remains unavailable after injuring his hamstring in Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City. His return date is expected to be within the next month.

Speaking to the press ahead of the Leicester game, Klopp said:

“We will see, [but] Hendo not and Trent not, that’s clear. All the rest we will see.”

With regards to “the rest”, there was at least some good news for Liverpool fans. Klopp hinted that Fabinho and summer signing Thiago Alcantara might be available in time for the weekend.

Thiago and Fabinho Return Would Provide Timely Boost to Injury-Stricken Reds

Liverpool are in desperate need of players returning from injury.

Along with Henderson and Alexander-Arnold being injured, the defending Premier League champions also have Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Fabinho and Thiago all in the medical room.

Mohamed Salah is also a doubt for upcoming matches, after returning a third positive test for COVID–19 two days ago.

The potential weekend return of Thiago and Fabinho would certainly help alleviate the injury crisis at the club at a critical phase of the season.

Liverpool are set to play two games a week for the next month. The club will have to balance their Champions League commitments with their Premier League title defence with a drastically depleted squad.

The main issues remain at the back, however – Gomez and van Dijk’s injuries are both considered long-term.

As a result, Klopp may look to add an extra centre-back to his squad in the upcoming transfer window.
