Shakhtar Donetsk put on another impressive display in the Champions League; the Ukrainian giants remained top of Group B after they held Inter Milan for a goalless draw at home.
Anatoliy Trubin Makes Great Save as Shakhtar Donetsk Holds Inter Milan to a Goalless Draw
Fortune Favours Shakhtar Donetsk
After two gameweeks, the Ukrainian giants lead Group B with four points. Inter Milan and Borussia Monchengladbach have two each, and Real Madrid remains bottom of the group with one point.
Inter Milan only had themselves to blame for their disappointing draw against Shakthar Donetsk. The Italian giants were the better side. The Nerazzurri cut open the Shakhtar defence on several occasions but failed to convert any of their chances into goals.
It was a bright start for the Nerazzurri as the Ukrainians struggled to cope with the Inter’s forwards. Romelu Lukaku proved a handful for the Miners as they struggled to contain him. The Italians came close in the 17th minute with Nicolo Barella hitting the post after Lukaku set up the Italian after Tubin blocked his initial effort.
The Belgian was a thorn in Shakhtar‘s defence all game. Lukaku came close to opening the account on several occasions but failed to find that incisive shot. A brilliant save from the 19-year old Anatoliy Trubin saw the striker’s 42nd-minute free-kick tipped onto the bar and going out.
The best chance of the match fell for Lautaro Martinez, who shockingly missed from close range after a blocked shot from Brozovic fell nicely for the Argentine.
Anatoliy Trubin Impressive Display Keeps Inter Milan at Bay
It was yet another impressive display for the 19-year old Anatoliy Trubin. The Ukrainian, who made his Champions League against Real Madrid, once again proved himself to be a worthy understudy to Andriy Pyatov. Facing the task of keeping one of the world’s best attack, Trubin held his own to earn Shakhtar a priceless point.
Romelu Lukaku, who gave a torrid time for Shakhtar defence, found himself struggling to get past the teenager. The Belgian had a one on one effort blocked by the Ukrainian in the 17th minute. But, it was his 42nd-minute free-kick that produced the save of the match.
Shooting from just outside the box, Lukaku had his brilliant free-kick saved by the fingers of the young goalkeeper, leaving him with his hands on his head. The second half also witnessed a similar display from the shot-stopper.
