REPORT: Manchester United Interested in Watford’s Ismaila Sarr

Ismaila Sarr

Manchester United are reportedly stepping up their interest for transfer alternatives as the Jadon Sancho transfer saga continues.

With the asking price for Jadon Sancho at around £108 million, the Red Devils are reluctantly looking elsewhere. In fact, the transfer interest is now much closer to home as Manchester United look at Watford’s Ismaila Sarr, according to Mike McGrath and Jason Burt of The Telegraph.

Sancho Still Top Priority

Manchester United’s pursuit of Sancho is unlikely to end here, though. The transfer has been ongoing for a while and signing Sancho would be an opportunity to show that United can still draw in top players.

On the other hand, Borussia Dortmund will want to get a fair fee for one of the biggest rising stars in football, which is causing both parties to clash heads over a mutually acceptable fee. Dortmund’s sporting director Michael Zorc has stated: “We plan on having Jadon Sancho in our team this season,” which highlights the reluctance of Dortmund to sell for anything under their strict valuation.

Ismaila Sarr Could Be the Answer to United’s Right-Wing

Sarr, 22, was a shining light in a miserable campaign for Watford last season, scoring five goals and getting four assists. He is comfortable on either wing, but Manchester United are lacking someone on the right side. Additionally, he would cost between £40-50 million, under half of what Dortmund want for Sancho.

With Watford relegated to the Championship, it could be wiser to cash in on Sarr rather than run the risk of his value depreciating. However, Sarr has four years left on his contract and has stated that the decision is Watford’s to make. Speaking to sanslimitesn.com, he said: “I still have another four years of contract with Watford. If they want me to stay, I’ll play in the Championship. My departure also depends on them. This is what is most normal for me.”
