Bradford City are set to host Stevenage in their third game of the 20/21 League Two campaign in search of their first three points of the season following two draws from two.
Stevenage travel to Bradford City for Third League Game
Bradford City
Bradford City are yet to win in the league after two stale-mates have seen the Bantams set a slow but steady pace. Stuart McCall has stressed his team must stick to their game plan if they are to register their first league win. On the other hand, Stevenage are playing well after taking four points from a possible six.
McCall stated: “We always prepare meticulously and have been doing so all week. We need to go out on that pitch on Saturday and make sure we put everything we have been working on into action.
After finishing the previous game against Forest Green Rovers with nine men, Bradford are short on numbers, especially at centre-back. This could see a shift in the line-up from the Bantams who usually favour a back three setup. Highly-rated youngster Reece Staunton fitness is in doubt after tweaking his ankle against Forest Green Rovers. Staunton, a left-footed centre-back, will be a boost to City’s chances if declared fit to play.
Anthony and Paudie O’Connor are both suspended for the upcoming fixture which opens up the first team for youth players.
Stevenage
Former Stevenage striker Alex Revell took over the managerial reigns last season. Revell is hoping to avoid a repeat of last season which almost saw Stevenage relegated. Macclesfield Town’s point deduction was the only thing that kept them in the football league. This team is not the Stevenage of last year, though. With 13 new additions, including former Bantam Romain Vincelot, this Stevenage side will be a new animal.
Their recent 3-0 win against Oldham Athletic was Stevenage’s first at home in 329 days and Revell was delighted to oversee the match. The team is showing a different character under Revell, one of consistency and hard work, which is paying off. Bradford City are also a new-look team under their manager and Stevenage will be faced with stiff opposition.
Analysis
Both teams come into the game unbeaten in the league. However, Bradford City are struggling to score goals and will be without two centre-backs. Conversely, Stevenage will not be shy of shooting after registering 12 shots on target against Oldham Athletic.
With Bradford’s suspensions in mind, Stevenage could edge proceedings but a draw seems the most likely outcome as both sides are tough to break down defensively.
