Jack Roles and Indiana Vassilev Join Burton Albion on Loan

Burton Vassilev

Burton Albion have announced the double signing of midfielder Jack Roles and winger Indiana Vassilev. Both arrive on loan from Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa respectively.

Midfielder Roles has signed a loan deal until January while Villa winger Vassilev will spend the season at the Pirelli Stadium. Vassilev’s deal is subject to league approval.

The acquisitions of Roles and Vassilev take Burton’s summer signings up to ten.

Busy Burton Take Their Summer Signing Tally to Ten

Midfielder Roles arrives on loan from Tottenham. He enjoyed a productive loan spell at Cambridge United last season. Prior to the curtailment of the season, Roles scored five goals in 23 games for the U’s.

The talented midfielder will now make the step up to League One. He will add some much-needed creativity and goals in the heart of the midfielder. Burton have lacked a creative midfielder so far this campaign and Roles’ arrival is a welcome one.

As well as Roles, Villa teenager Indiana Vassilev also arrives on loan. The United States international has featured for his country at several youth levels and is highly thought off at Aston Villa. The teenager made a handful of Premier League appearances last season but this move to the Brewers offers regular first-team football and experience.

Vassilev is a shrewd acquisition and certainly adds quality to Burton’s attack. His versatility means he can play on either flank or in the number ten role behind the striker. He only made his senior debut in January and will now test himself at League One level.

He brings creativity, pace, and goals something Burton have lacked. Vassilev will be confident he can adapt to League One quickly.

Both Roles and Vassilev could make their Burton debuts this weekend against Accrington Stanley.

What the Manager Had to Say

“Jack is a ball player – he wants to get on the ball and will make things happen,” manager Jake Buxton told the club website of Jack Roles.

“He has scored some great long-range goals. He did tremendously well on loan at Cambridge United last season and is ready for the step up.

“He now has to earn the right to get a shirt, work hard, and get in the team.”

Speaking of Indiana Vassilev, Buxton said: “Indiana is a direct player who got game time last year with Aston Villa’s first-team.

“He played in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and also got games in project restart, so he should be up to speed.

“He’s an exciting player who I’m sure the fans will like.”

What the Player Said

“I’m absolutely delighted to sign,” Jack Roles told Burton Albion’s website.

“I was at Cambridge last year and I wanted to test myself at the next level. I found out yesterday after training and as soon as I knew I was over the moon.

“I drove up last night and then trained with the team this morning! It’s happened really fast but sometimes in football that’s good and you can then get on and do your thing on the pitch.

“I’m a midfielder who likes to make things happen, get in the box and score goals but I won’t be afraid to put my foot in and work hard for the fans and the manager.”

Vassilev said: “I’m super happy to sign for Burton Albion and to give all I can for the club.

“I’m a player who’ll work hard for the team and look to create. I’ll do whatever the team needs – I’ll be the handyman!

“I’ve had a lot of good experience with the Aston Villa first-team but we decided it’s time to test myself in another league.”
