Lincoln City have announced the double signing of Alex Palmer and Callum Morton from Premier League club West Bromwich Albion. Both players have joined the Imps on season-long loan deals.

Imps Make Impressive Double Swoop
24-year-old goalkeeper Palmer has never made a senior appearance for the Baggies, but Lincoln are now the fifth club that he has joined on loan.
After two different spells with hometown club Kidderminster Harriers in the National League, he temporarily joined Oldham Athletic as well as Notts County during the 2018/19 season. However, he found first-team opportunities to be infrequent at both clubs.
Last term, Palmer finally got his chance to play regularly in League Two with Plymouth Argyle. He started every league game for the Pilgrims prior to the suspension of the season, keeping a total of 14 clean sheets.
Plymouth finished in third position after the campaign was ended on points-per-game, meaning that Palmer earned his first promotion in football.
Meanwhile, the Imps’ second recent acquisition from West Brom also won promotion from the fourth-tier last season, but by a different method.
Northampton Town were in the hunt for a striker in January so they turned to Morton, who had never played in the EFL before. Prior to lockdown, the 20-year-old was in impressive form and netted five goals in nine league games.
When football returned in June, the Cobblers were victorious in the League Two play-offs, with Morton playing a key role. He scored a further three goals in the club’s three decisive matches, including in the final at an empty Wembley Stadium.
Both players had very strong breakthrough seasons which have attracted Lincoln to them, but now they face the challenge of trying to continue to impress in a higher division.
What Was Said?
Speaking to the club’s official website, Imps manager Michael Appleton expressed his excitement after getting both deals sealed ahead of the start of the new season.
On the arrival of Palmer, he said: “Alex is a big guy; he has got a lot in his game which is excellent. He is good with his feet and stands big.
“He could have gone to a lot of different clubs, but we have a good relationship with West Brom. Alex was quite rightly voted the best goalkeeper in the league, so we are excited.”
Appleton, who represented West Brom himself at the end of his playing career, is also clearly pleased to have added another striker to his squad with the signing of Morton.
“Callum came to the fore during the play-offs and every football fan would have watched him,” Appleton stated.
“We have a really strong front line now, we are delighted to have him on board.”
