Former Love Island Star ‘Close to’ EFL Move as Championship Clubs Come Calling

Non-League to EFL

Lewis starred on Love Island in 2019 and started his career at Watford.

More recently, however, he has been plying his trade in non-league football with Wealdstone.

He was an instrumental part of the Stones side who won the National League South title; he scored 14 goals and assisted an additional 11.

His impressive figures come despite missing the first ten games of the season to partake in the ITV2 reality television show.

But, as a result of his talented performances, the Sun and Mirror claim that a number of EFL clubs are circling – including interest from the Championship.

They report that Huddersfield Town, Sunderland, Oxford United and Leyton Orient have all been watching Dennon Lewis this year.

But Charlton Athletic reportedly lead the race to sign the 23-year-old after the Addicks head of recruitment Steve Gallen picked him out.

Who is Dennon Lewis?

Lewis’ career began with Premier League Watford but he failed to make a first-team appearance before his departure in 2018.

He later joined Woking, Crawley Town and Bromley before linking up with Wealdstone last year.

Yet it was when Lewis was with Falkirk in Scotland that he first made the headlines.

During his time north of the border, the 23-year-old was racially abused by his own supporters.

At the time, he released a statement on Instagram in response to the abuse.

He said: “I have never gone through a period like this in my life.

“From a footballing standpoint things are not going as planned for anyone involved at the club, however from a personal standpoint in a million years would I have expected to be subject to racial abuse from Falkirk fans.”

With Addicks top scorer Lyle Taylor set to leave the club, Lewis could be a welcomed boost of firepower regardless of what division they are to compete in.

Lee Bowyer’s side are desperate to maintain their Championship status and are just three points above the relegation zone currently.

Having failed to couple up with anyone in the Villa, perhaps Lewis will have more luck finding love in the EFL.
