Ligue 1 club Marseille are looking to sign Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain, according to reports Goal’s Robin Bairner and French outlet L’equipe. He is set to move to France if Fabrizio Ravanelli is appointed for their vacant sporting director role.
Marseille Interested in Gonzalo Higuain
The French Job
Most likely wanting to find a new challenge and a team where he is more likely to play, Brest-born Higuain is now 32-years-old. The twilight of his career is looming as ideas of a move elsewhere linger, and to his country of birth, France, would seem like an ideal prospect.
Marseille will be looking to add to their ranks of attackers. Also seeking a new sporting director, Fabrizio Ravanelli has made interest clear. He offers to secure the services of Gonzalo Higuain if the Italian is to be appointed. After Andoni Zubizarreta left the sporting directory position vacant, Ravanelli is one of the candidates to take over.
Marseille seem to have kicked up a notch since last season. They finished second in the curtailed Ligue 1 season, coming behind Paris Saint-Germain. With talented players on the wings such as Florian Thauvin and Dimitri Payet, they’re looking for an elite finisher. Higuain has proved he can be just that.
A Chance to Improve
Scoring five goals and providing four assists in 23 games this season, Higuain will no doubt look to improve this if he is to join Marseille. His will to score and physical attributes are a big help. Whilst not being consistent lately, the help of Payet could turn things around.
His Serie A, La Liga and Premier League experience will no doubt come in handy if it comes to playing in another of Europe’s major leagues. The three-time La Liga winner would grace his birth country’s pitches for the first time in his career.
While also aiming to add to Marseille’s goal tally, Higuain will play a role in giving Dario Benedetto competition for his spot. This will no doubt expand the squad’s depth plus options for cup matches.
