Sheffield United players have accepted to take a partial pay and bonus deferral until the end of 2020.

Financial Uncertainty Lead to Decision
According to the club statement, the Blades said the pay deferral would help “cash flow issues.”
The statement also quoted the decision had come “amid uncertainty regarding the timing for a return to action.”
The football season has been postponed since March 13 following the outbreak of Covid-19. All Premier League Clubs, however, have insisted on playing out the remainder of the season when safe to do so.
Blades’ manager Chris Wilder, and chief executive Stephen Bettis, have already agreed to take a pay and bonus deferral on Monday. and the squad have now followed.
The Blades also said the pay deferral will take the strain off “cash flow issues,” it could bring to the club.
The club are the fourth Premier League squad to defer their wages, after West Ham, Southampton and Watford. On Monday, Arsenal also announced their played would take a pay cut of 12.5%.
Sheffield Unted’s CEO, Stephen Bettis has praised the squad’s decsion to take this pay deferral.
“It’s a difficult period for everyone, but our club needs taking care of,” he said.
“It shows how much they care about the club.
“The players should be commended, not only for this action. But also for their role in the #playerstogether initiative with other Premier League clubs.”
It’s believed the money will be used to pay other staff members at the clubs. Several clubs have used the government’s furlough scheme to pay non-playing staff, but the Blades do not intend on using it.
