Neco Williams to Be Offered New Deal

Impressive Back-Up

Neco Williams has consistently impressed when filling in for Trent Alexander-Arnold this season. His performances in both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup have shown that he is a player capable of playing in the first team.

Liverpool will need a back-up right back at the end of this season as Nathaniel Clyne is expected to depart. By offering Williams a new deal, the Reds will have a player who is already well versed in Klopp’s methods and save them millions in the process. It will also prevent Joe Gomez from being played out of position, as he is needed at centre-back.

Pathway for Youth at Liverpool

By rewarding Neco Williams with a new contract, Liverpool are showing that the pathway to the first team is still open for the club’s youngsters. Trent Alexander-Arnold benefited from Nathaniel Clyne’s injury a couple of seasons ago and Williams looks set to do the same.

It shows that the club will not spend for the sake of spending if there is a solution in house. The club will stick to their principles, no matter how successful they become. This has also been seen at left-back, with the club refusing to sanction a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Raphael Guerreiro due to Yasser Larouci‘s progress.

This bodes well for other youngsters currently trying to break into the first team at Anfield. It will certainly provide hope for players such as Ki-Jana Hoever, Curtis Jones, Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott.
