Macclesfield announced via their website they had signed the duo. Mitchell and Whitehead arrive on loan for the remainder of the season determined to steer cash-strapped Macclesfield away from relegation trouble.

Mitchell is a vastly experienced goalkeeper who arrives to replace Owen Evans who was recalled by Wigan and eventually loaned to Cheltenham.

The Derby stopper has played at all levels of the football league. He spent last season at Oxford United and Shrewsbury. He also spent some time in League Two with Luton back in 2015/16.

Mitchell arrives to compete with Reice Charles-Cook who have filled in after Evans left the club. Mark Kennedy has been chasing a new keeper since taking over and will be delighted to have Mitchell on board.

Danny Whitehead returns for a fourth spell at Macclesfield. His most recent spell saw Macclesfield return to the football league before he left for Salford in 2018. Whitehead knows all about Macclesfield and will be delighted to be back.

Game time has been limited at Salford this season. Whitehead returns to Macclesfield a hero following his tremendous role in Macclesfield’s return to the football league.

Both Whitehead and Mitchell will play key roles in Macclesfield’s fight to avoid the drop out of the football league. Financial and disciplinary proceedings may send them down anyway but, Mitchell and Whitehead will be key figures in Macclesfield collecting as many points as possible.

Both players made their debuts in last night’s draw with Cheshire rivals Crewe Alexandra. That result left Macclesfield three points clear of the relegation zone.
