Loan Deal
Rovers have captured midfielder Alex Woodyard on loan for the remainder of the season.
Woodyard was named Peterborough captain for the 2018-19 season after signing from Lincoln City for an undisclosed fee.
The 26-year-old has made 69 appearances in all competitions and has featured regularly this season.
Woodyard rose to fame after playing a key part in Braintree Town’s team in reaching the National League Play-Off semi-final in 2015-16.
He then followed boss Danny Cowley to Lincoln City where he earned promotion from non-league’s top tier and then a 7th place finish in League Two.
Mellon: His Qualities Are Exactly What We Need
Talking of the new signing, Rovers boss Micky Mellon said: “I’m very happy to get the deal sorted. He’s a midfield player that we have been aware of and we’ve worked hard to get him here.
“His qualities are exactly what we need at the Club at the moment and it is definitely a step forward in terms of improving the group.
“When we found out that he was available, he was at the top end of the players we wanted to bring here. He’s got the right mentality and is the right type of person and he wants to come here and play.
“He’s a good age, good experience and we will definitely be better off with his qualities in the group. I’m delighted to bring him in.”
Woodyard added: “I’m excited to be joining and I can’t wait to get started.
“I’ve played in a few different leagues and I played a lot in League One last year, so hopefully I can come in and help the team.
“I’ve always enjoyed playing at Tranmere. It’s a lovely stadium and the fans always seem to get behind their team and it’s something that I’m excited for.”
Woodyard is available to be selected in Rovers’ upcoming League One tie with relegation rivals Southend United.
