Ipswich Town striker Freddie Sears has declared himself “ready to go” ahead of Town’s trip to Portsmouth on Saturday.
Freddie Sears: I’m Ready To Go
Return From Injury
The Tractor Boys could be given an early Christmas present with striker Sears reportedly fit to return.
Thirty-year-old Sears featured in an hour of the 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace; last week he played 45 minutes at Millwall.
It is unknown whether Sears has shown enough in training to warrant starting ahead of Kayden Jackson and James Norwood at Fratton Park on Saturday.
But Sears, who suffered a serious knee injury back in February, is raring to be dispatched.
“I’m feeling good.” the former Colchester United forward said.
“I’ve been training for three months now. It’s about getting the final touches again, I’m ready to go, ready for action.
“These U23 games can be tough. It was wet, muddy, tough conditions.
“These games are not like first-team games.”
Sears’ return would boost Town’s goalscoring antics, having scored six times in five matches, but boss Paul Lambert has previously said he will not rush back into action.
The former West Ham striker’s teammates at Portman Road have also spoken of the boost surrounding Sears’ return.
“Freddie is looking really good and really sharp,” said defender James Wilson recently.
“It’ll be brilliant, like having a new signing for us.
“We’re all looking forward to him getting back in the squad.”
Town head to Portsmouth on Saturday with one win in ten outings in all competitions.
