The 20-year-old had an existing contract until this summer; however, the young shot-stopper today put pen to paper on a three-year extension.

Cooper has made seven appearances for the Pilgrims at first-team level, starting four times in cup competitions this term.

He received heaps of praise for a recent outstanding performance against Everton in the Premier League Under-23 Cup group game.

The young Pilgrims drew 1-1 with Cooper playing a key role in keeping the scores level.

Cooper is regarded as the back-up to on-loan West Brom ‘keeper Alex Palmer in league competitions this term.

Lowe: We See Cooper as a Big Part Of The Future

Pilgrims boss Ryan Lowe spoke of his delight at retaining a key asset.

After tying down the youth prospect, Lowe said: “We feel Coops has got big potential, he can go on and play at the highest levels.

“I have only come in this season, so it has been five or six months, and I have seen his qualities.

“When I asked the board to back me on extending his contract, it was a no brainer.”

Speaking on the future, Lowe added: “We see Coops as being a big part of the future of Plymouth Argyle and his chance will come if he keeps working the way he is.”
