Welcome to the thirteenth edition of our EFL League Two Preview. The 2019/20 EFL season is in full-swing, so the unexpected can be expected. We look ahead at the fixtures in the fourth-tier this weekend.
Crewe Alexandra and Bradford City Host Big Clashes
Crewe Alexandra v Swindon Town
Top of League Two, Crewe Alexandra have been nothing short of brilliant. David Artell’s side have scored the most goals in the fourth-tier (23). They entertain Swindon Town who, despite recent form, have enjoyed their campaign thus far, currently sitting seventh.
Crewe beat Carlisle United 4-2 in a thrilling encounter at Brunton Park last weekend. On the other hand, Swindon were held to a 1-1 draw against Plymouth Argyle at the County Ground.
Bradford City v Crawley Town
Currently third, Bradford City have begun to reach the form many predicted for them. Winning seven league games and only losing three so far, the Bantams fought to a 2-1 win away to Morecambe previously.
As for Crawley Town, despite their inconsistent form, Gabriele Cioffi’s side remain within touching distance of the play-offs. The Sussex club came from behind to beat Colchester United 2-1 at home in their last match.
EFL League Two Preview: Predictions
Bradford City v Crawley Town
Crawley Town have been inconsistent this season, despite their positive position in the league. On the other hand, Bradford City are seemingly starting to pick up some momentum at last. The quality of the Bantams might just be too much for the visitors, so a City win wouldn’t be a surprise.
Bradford City 3-1 Crawley Town
Cambridge United v Exeter City
Despite being at home, it is a tall order for Cambridge United to take anything from high-flying Exeter City. The Grecians are off the back of a big 1-0 win over Forest Green Rovers, whereas the U’s lost 1-0 away to Salford City last Saturday. It’s hard to look past the Devon club claiming another three points.
Cambridge United 0-2 Exeter City
Colchester United v Morecambe
It has been a struggle so far for Morecambe. Rooted to the bottom of the EFL, an away trip to Colchester United won’t be too welcome of a prospect. Also, despite the U’s losing last weekend, they will no doubt be relishing the idea of bouncing back courtesy of the lowly Lancashire club.
Colchester United 3-1 Morecambe
Crewe Alexandra v Swindon Town
Perhaps the most exciting encounter this weekend, goals can be expected between both sides. Both sides have an attacking edge about them, and they certainly know where the goal is. A thrilling encounter could be a real possibility.
Crewe Alexandra 2-2 Swindon Town
Forest Green Rovers v Mansfield Town
A very strong Forest Green Rovers side at home is a tough prospect for anyone, that includes an underwhelming Mansfield Town side, who have been disappointing so far this season. Another three points for Rovers looks to be on the cards.
Forest Green Rovers 2-0 Mansfield Town
Grimsby Town v Leyton Orient
The Mariners have been almost a surprise package this season. Currently tenth, they are firmly enjoying their campaign so far. As for the O’s, it will be Ross Embleton’s final game in-charge, as Carl Fletcher takes charge next week. The O’s could do with a point to extend their unbeaten run.
Grimsby Town 1-1 Leyton Orient
Newport County v Scunthorpe United
Two sides with contrasting fortunes this season, this fixture could well prove so too. The Exiles head into the one far more confident than the visitors. Paul Hurst’s side could be in for a long afternoon in south Wales.
Newport County 2-1 Scunthorpe United
Northampton Town v Salford City
An early season mid-table clash so to speak, a point apiece would not hurt either side at this point. It won’t be the most attractive game of football, but both sides need to go for it.
Northampton Town 1-1 Salford City
Oldham Athletic v Macclesfield Town
After getting beaten 6-1 against Mansfield Town, the Latics will want to put that behind them quickly. However, a stern Silkmen side will not make for an easy afternoon for the Manchester club. A point for the Latics will be fine, as they look to get past their previous outing.
Oldham Athletic 1-1 Macclesfield Town
Plymouth Argyle v Carlisle United
The longest journey of the season, the travelling Carlisle United fans will be hoping for a result. However, despite their slow start to the season by their standards, Plymouth Argyle will be the more confident heading into this one.
Plymouth Argyle 2-0 Carlisle United
Port Vale v Stevenage
Neither side are in inspiring form, so this will be an opportunity for both to find a result and get some confidence going. The Valiants currently 13th will look at this one with a more positive mindset, as Stevenage have only won once all season.
Port Vale 3-1 Stevenage
Walsall v Cheltenham Town
Both have not won their previous two, so something will give in this encounter. Darrell Clark will need the points, as his Saddlers side have been underwhelming so far this season. A point would be enough to stop the poor form for Walsall.
Walsall 1-1 Cheltenham Town
