Leeds United Track Reece James

January Loan Swoop

The interest is according to a report by Dan Veysey of Football Insider.

According to the report, Leeds United are interested in signing Reece James on loan this January as they look to boost their bid for promotion.

The defender endured a slow start to the season due to an ankle injury; however, his recent recovery has allowed him to return to Frank Lampard’s first team plans.

James made his debut in the 7-1 League Cup demolition job of Grimsby Town last month.

The 19-year-old found the net and provided an assist on a successful evening at Stamford Bridge.

He also started and played 69 minutes in Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Lille in the Champions League.

Development In Lancashire

James spent last season on loan at Wigan Athletic in the Sky Bet Championship.

The defender was such a success with the Latics that he was crowned the Players’ Player of the Year as well as Fans’ Player of the Year.

He was also named in the Championship Team of the Season.

While on loan with Wigan, James was utilised in a number of positions.

The defender is traditionally a right-back; however, while at the DW Stadium he was also used as a central defender and in midfield as a right winger or central midfielder.

Chelsea Operate Under Transfer Ban

Lampard’s side continue to work under the sanctions of a transfer ban.

The Blues endured an immediate struggle under the Chelsea icon as the sale of Eden Hazard left them without much creativity and attacking threat up-front.

In March, FIFA banned Chelsea from signing any new players until January 2020.

The Blues were charged after being found guilty of breaking rules in relation to signing foreign under-18 players.
