Luton Town are in talks to sign versatile defender David Sesay from Crawley Town. According to Football League Zone, talks are ongoing between the two clubs.
David Sesay of Crawley Town Pursued by Luton Town
Filling Luton’s Full-back Void
The 20-year-old is comfortable down the left and also should have no issue fitting in as a right-back. The full-back area is a void that has been left vacant for over a month. With James Justin and Jack Stacey both departing for the Premier League, it’s no surprise Luton are once again chasing a young prospect. With Marc Bola recently joining Middlesbrough, whom the Hatters host on Friday night, the club’s attention has turned to Sesay.
Can Crawley Afford to Lose Key Defender?
In 21 games last season, Sesay won over 56% of defensive duels along with a 67.1% forward pass accuracy. Having joined the Red Devils after leaving Watford in last summer, Crawley are determined to keep their prized asset. However, with his contract expiring next summer, are the League Two side in a position to risk losing Sesay for nothing? So far in this window, clubs such as West Brom have reportedly been interested in signing the player. And, so far, Sesay has remained a Crawley player. Luton Town have until the 8th of August to try to get this deal over the line.
Following in the Footsteps
The allure of Championship football will undoubtedly appeal to Sesay. But, it isn’t just the step up from League Two, but the potential to move further up the Football League. He still has the benefit of his youth, however, he will want to take every opportunity to advance his career. Former Luton players Justin, Stacey, Jamal Lewis and Max Aarons will play in the Premier League this season. If Sesay were to join before deadline day, he will arrive knowing if he works hard enough, he may well hit the very top.
