Defender Curtis Nelson has signed for Cardiff City following the club’s relegation to the Championship. The 26-year-old, who rejected a new deal with Oxford United, joins Neil Warnock as the Bluebirds look to seal a return to the Premier League.
Also joining the club are Rotherham United and Wales international midfielder Will Vaulks on an undisclosed fee and Newport County goalkeeper Joe Day on a free transfer. The deals for Vaulks and Nelson are subject to international clearance while Day is a rare occasion where it is not needed as he is joining from another Welsh side.

Free Agent Joins Bluebirds
On Sunday 16th June, Simon Jones at the Daily Mail reported that the Championship side had agreed a deal with Nelson.
The 26-year-old arrives at The Cardiff City Stadium on a two-year deal.
Despite only suffering relegation from the Premier League on the penultimate weekend of the season, Cardiff need many improvements ahead of next term. Warnock’s side conceded 69 goals in the campaign, the fourth worst in the division, and scored the third lowest amount of goals.
In May, Oxford manager Karl Robinson offered the defender a new deal, but the defender rejected the offer.
Vaulks Addition
25-year-old Vaulks has agreed a three-year deal at the club after his transfer from Rotherham United. He made 41 appearances for the Millers last term and has earned three caps for the Wales international squad under manager Ryan Giggs.
Upon signing his deal, Vaulks told Cardiff’s official website: “I’m absolutely over the moon to be here and to get this over the line. It’s been a brilliant year for me. I’m really looking forward to playing regularly at Cardiff City Stadium after getting a taste of it at the Slovakia match.
“It’s great to be playing for the biggest club in Wales just six months after my first international call up.”
Day’s Move
Goalkeeper Day joins from near neighbours Newport County, hence the reason no international clearance is required. He was a key figure in the Exiles’ run to the League Two play-off final this season, where they were defeated 1-0 by Tranmere Rovers.
Day told the Cardiff website: “The move here for me is a massive opportunity.
“I’ve had a good five seasons at Newport County. It’s been great and now I feel like I need to make the step up.
“I know a couple of the players from back at Peterborough, like [Nathaniel] Mendez-Laing and obviously Rhys [Healey] from when he came to Newport so it will be good seeing them again.”
