Tottenham Hotspur travel to Liverpool for the Sunday afternoon game in the Premier League. Liverpool sit just one point behind leaders Manchester City at the top of the table whilst 11 dropped points have caused Tottenham to start looking nervously over their shoulders in the race for the top four.
Harry Kane has been in good goalscoring form for club and Country whilst in recent matches, Sadio Mane has been Liverpool’s main man.
Harry Kane and Sadio Mane The In Form Men
Both Harry Kane and Sadio Mane have 17 goals a piece in this season’s Premier League. Kane has had an injury at the start of the year but has still managed to bag goals despite Spurs worrying dip in form. Mane has scored some lovely goals – back heels, top corner curlers as he spearheads Liverpool’s challenge for the Premier League title.
Tottenham’s Dip in Form
Defeat to Burnley started a slump in Spurs’ season – one of the worst under manager Mauricio Pochettino. Tottenham then lost at Chelsea and Southampton as they threw away 11 points tamely. From a comfortable ten point cushion in third place, Spurs are now looking over their shoulders at Arsenal, Chelsea and a rejuvenated Manchester United. Any more dropped points and it could be a disastrous situation for Spurs if they go ‘home’ without Champions league Football, although they could still win that trophy.
Liverpool Ready to Show Strength of Character?
Liverpool remain the only team in the Premier League era to be top of the league at Christmas twice and still not win the title. A third time is not something they want to be associated with. They will need to dig deep and show real strength of character if they are to pip City to this year’s crown and defeat to Tottenham would be a massive blow to their chances.
Prediction
With Tottenham not having played for over 20 days, the team should be fresh and ready despite a number of the squad having played in recent International matches. Liverpool have the chance to go two points clear of Manchester City and put themselves back in pole position for the title. Either way, it will likely be Harry Kane and Sadio Mane who hold the trump cards.
Predicted result: Liverpool 3 Tottenham Hotspur 3
