AFC Ajax vs Juventus
AFC Ajax humiliated the defending champions, Real Madrid, 5-3 on aggregate to advance to the quarter-final. The Dutch side have a very youthful and passionate squad that seems to be very effective in the big games. They look very organised defensively and have the talent going forward to create an abundance of chances.
Juventus made their way to the quarter-final, after a heroic performance by Cristiano Ronaldo. They overturned a 2-0 deficit against Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.
Liverpool vs Porto
Liverpool put up a convincing performance at the Allianz Arena to secure their spot in the next phase of this competition. The lethal attack of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane proved too much for the German side to handle.
FC Porto are definitely the dark horses in the quarter-finals, and will definitely be underestimated by Liverpool. However, their victory over Roma in the round of sixteen perfectly highlights their abundance of talent and excellent game management.
Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City
Tottenham Hotspur put up a very mature and comprehensive display in both legs against Borussia Dortmund. Pochettino’s side often don’t get the credit they deserve due to their lack of consistency and other clubs may underestimate the strength and quality of their team.
Manchester City showcased their attacking abilities in a 10-2 thrashing over FC Schalke 04 in the round of sixteen. City are the favourites to win this tournament and it will take something special from Spurs to beat the English side over two legs.
Manchester United vs FC Barcelona
FC Barcelona overcame Lyon in their round of sixteen tie. Lyon did well to hold the Catalan giants to a 0-0 draw in France, but a masterclass from Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp secured Barcelona’s place in the quarter-final.
Manchester United earned their place in the quarter-final after a historic comeback against Paris Saint Germain. The Red Devils got past the French giants in dramatic fashion after the video assistant referee awarded them a penalty in stoppage time. This jaw-dropping fixture is the marquee matchup of this stage of the competition.
