Portugal vs Chile, Team News and Confirmed Lineups
Portugal Team News
In the build-up to Portugal vs Chile, Roberto Martinez discussed the availability of certain players: “Unfortunately, Matheus Nunes is not yet fit to train. It’s not the time to take risks. Let’s hope he’s available for the game against Nigeria. As for João Félix, it’s a different case; I think he’ll be available for the Chile game.”
The Paris Saint-Germain contingent of Nuno Mendes, Joao Neves, Vitinha and Gonçalo Ramos will not be available, with their season only finishing last weekend. Martinez also discussed the importance of the PSG players ahead of the 2026 World Cup:
“The two-time European champions will be a great help because they believe anything is possible. It was the same a year ago. Nuno Mendes was the best player in the Nations League final against Spain, Vitinha had a very good final four, Gonçalo Ramos is an example because of his attitude, and João Neves is at the top of the world.”
Chile Team News
Chile are in a complete rebuild, and the glory years of 2015 and 2016 seem a lifetime ago, with Arturo Vidal and Alexis Sanchez no longer involved. Nicolas Cordova’s team did win three friendlies at the end of last year, but were recently beaten 4-1 by New Zealand.
Swansea’s goalkeeper, Lawrence Vigouroux, will be familiar to some and will start in goal, while it’s expected that Sao Paulo’s Gonzalo Tapia will start in attack, supported by Dario Osorio.
