Leicester’s struggle to replace Jamie Vardy has been one of the many contributing factors to this season’s relegation to League One. Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka have managed a measly six goals each this season; numbers that just aren’t good enough. As a result, it’s no surprise that the duo are both out of contract this summer. Daka has been the first to speak out and has attracted interest over the years. With a move more than likely, what’s next for the Zambian forward?

On the move: Paston Daka
As reported by Calvin Chikenge, Daka is set for a future outside of Leicester. “I will be out of contract for sure, so I have to assess every possibility that comes,” Daka said to Chikenge. He initially arrived back in 2021, when City were in a completely different situation to now. The Foxes were coming off the back of their F.A Cup triumph, whilst Daka was attracting heavy interest from top clubs like Liverpool. It’s a stark contrast to now, as Leicester suffered a third relegation in four years, and the striker has struggled to find form.

The lack of consistency has marred his time in LE2. There were highs like the four goals away at Spartak Moscow in the Europa League. There were also lows, such as the almost year-long goal drought stretching from December 2024 to November 2025. He has been in better form lately, with Rowett preferring him to Ayew. 11 of his 20 starts came under the new boss; a brace against Preston certainly being his best performance.
How Does This Affect Leicester
For both the club and the player, going their separate ways seems to be the ideal scenario. Daka hasn’t lived up to expectations, and would be carrying quite large wages due to the now-unthinkable ambition that Leicester once had. A move away gives him a chance to reignite his form and reach the heights that he was destined for at RB Salzburg. Real Betis were linked back in the summer, but they couldn’t reach City’s staggering valuation of £10m.

In terms of City’s situation, Daka leaving will also suit them. They have been in desperate need of a striker, and his exit should facilitate that. More wages will be available, and they will have no experienced forward left. If a talismanic figure can be brought in, then the severe issue of finding goals may finally be fixed. Laurent Tolaj is one of the names already being linked, though there will be severe competition from Championship clubs. The Plymouth Argyle striker is more than proven in League One, with 27 goal contributions this season. It would be a statement signing for Leicester, as they hope to return to the Championship at the first time of asking.
