Betting Favourite – Filipe Luis

Former player and Premier League title winner with Chelsea, Filipe Luis was one of the betting picks to replace Enzo Maresca a few short months ago. At the time he was still in charge of Flamengo in Brazil. He has since parted ways with the team and could represent a good opportunity for the Blues to appoint a younger manager who can grow into the elite coach they want.

His record in the Brazilian Serie A was impressive as he worked his way up through Flamengo’s youth teams until he got the senior hotseat in September of 2024. He went on to lose just 15 of 101 outings in charge, overseeing an impressive return of 187 goals scored. He has won the Brazilian Serie A, the Copa Libertadores, Copa do Brasil, and a number of personal honours, giving him one of the strongest pedigrees of most candidates.

Andoni Iraola

With the confirmation that he will be leaving Bournemouth, Andoni Iraola immediately became one of the more in-demand coaches in world football. He has been a success with the Cherries and continued their good run into this year even after a major overhaul of their back line in the summer. His managerial career has seen him work wonders at AEK Larnaca, Mirandes, and Rayo Vallecano before his successes in England.

What could hold this appointment back is Iraola’s own personal ambitions, will he be willing to take the risk of managing one of the messier big clubs in Europe? Not to mention the doubts about whether this Blues squad is even built for his style of football after seeing how quickly it fell apart under Rosenior.

Cesc Fabregas

Another former player on the list, Cesc Fabregas won the Premier League with Chelsea under Jose Mourinho and after his successful playing craeer at the top level has gone on to impress in the coaching world. His work at Como has seen the team become one of Italy’s consistent top clubs as evidenced by multiple coach of the month award wins.

With his team in fifth in Serie A, he has gotten his side above institutions like Roma, Atalanta, Lazio, and Fiorentina with European qualification on the horizon. Will the Spaniard want to go from an upward trajectory to the muddied waters of Stamford Bridge? That remains to be seen.

Calum McFarlane

Well, there’s always a weird betting pick. Calum McFarlane is on here but there could just be some who are betting on him as they believe the team might not have a new full time manager by the time the next campaign starts. That isn’t really likely, but stranger things have happened in the Clearlake era of Chelsea.
