Manager Confirms Levi Colwill Will Play This Week

Ahead of Chelsea vs Manchester United, Liam Rosenior spoke to the media to provide some updates on the injury status of his squad. Notes were given on a number of defensive options, including Reece James, Trevoh Chalobah, and fellow Englishman and Cobham graduate Levi Colwill. The most interesting of those is about the 22-year-old who has missed the entire season to date with an ACL tear he suffered during pre-season.

Levi Colwill To Make Return From ACL Injury This Week

What Was Said

The manager confirmed that Colwill is ready to return to the pitch, not only hoping that we could see him play in the senior squad before the end of the campaign, but also that he will be expected to make his return to the pitch for the Under-21s.

The U21 side recently finished top of the PL2 table and is set to compete in the play-off round with them taking on the 16th seed on April 24, the match featuring Colwill is likely to be an unannounced friendly. Either way, it is nice to see the Englishman make any sort of return to the field after missing the entire campaign to date.

What This Means For Chelsea

For this term? It won’t mean much, even if the defender is fit to play consistent minutes by Matchday 38, he is unlikely to be back to his best right away. A return to action could be spurred on by his desire to try and get a spot in the 2026 World Cup squad, something that could benefit the Blues greatly.

The centre-back getting to knock off some of his rust and work his way to match fitness in the less intense style of international football could have him back near his best for the start of the 2026/27 season. For now, it is just good to see a young talent make his return from such a horrendous injury.
