Wolverhampton Wanderers make the short trip to Villa Park on November 30, looking to get their first win of the season and get a crucial result in a tough West Midlands Derby. With the pressure increasing with each game, and points desperately needed, Rob Edwards will be hoping that his side can address their defensive fragility and discover some composure in the final third. Given the need to shore things up at the back, Wolves have leaned towards a more cautious set-up in recent weeks, often using a back five to keep the shape and limit opposition space in the wide areas. While this has helped tighten the structure at times, the side still struggles to turn defensive organisation into attacking momentum, leaving them reliant on counter-attacks and isolated moments of quality. Edwards had this to say on the hopes of surviving relegation during the pre-match press conference:
“We’ve come into a really difficult situation, but there is a belief there that we can dig ourselves out of this tough situation. But there is also a realism that it’s never been done before. We want to achieve something incredible, but I understand the position we’re in.”
