Green Street is one of the most iconic British football hooligan films. Its 2005 release captivated the hearts of working-class Britain, romanticising the idea of following your favourite team around the country.
The hooligan element of the film is accurate, with football violence steeped in British culture for many years. Starring Elijah Wood, Charlie Hunnam, and Leo Gregory, the film was culturally relevant and referenced a fictional group of West Ham hooligans called The Green Street Elite, inspired by the real West Ham firm, known as the ICF.
The iconic film is set to make a comeback, with actor Leo Gregory, who played “Bovver,” revealing to talkSPORT that a new chapter for Green Street is in the works.

Actor Talks New Green Street Film
Green Street follows Matt Buckner as he travels to London to visit his sister after being expelled from Harvard. While living with his sister, he is introduced to football hooliganism by his brother-in-law, Pete Dunham. The film follows Matt’s journey as he finds support in the most unlikely place, witnessing firsthand the brutal cost involved in football rivalries.
When speaking to talkSport, Gregory revealed: “I might have a little exclusive for talkSPORT to be fair. So, I have a film coming out early next year, which is Rise of the Footsoldier: Ibiza.
“And the same producer of that, Andrew Loveday, amazing man. We’re gonna be shooting a new Green Street next year, with Signature, 20 years later. And that is an exclusive for ya.”
What Happened Next
Following the first Green Street, we were treated to Green Street 2: Stand Your Ground in 2009, and Green Street 3: Never Back Down in 2013. The second film focuses on both West Ham and Millwall firms as they look to settle scores in a prison football match.
The third instalment centered around a former hooligan being tempted back into a life of violence after his brother was attacked. If you missed these instalments, don’t panic; you’re not missing much.
Leo Gregory and Andrew Loveday are involved with the planned new Green Street film. Their involvement certainly builds confidence that it will have more impact than the second or third films. Might we even see an Elijah Wood cameo?
