Liverpool Transfer in Jeopardy as Deadline Day Twist Unfolds

Marc Guehi Holds Talks With Glasner

It had been a productive deadline day so far, with Liverpool finally reaching an agreement with Newcastle to sign Alexander Isak, with the long-running transfer saga at a close. Arne Slot’s team made it clear they were not done and quickly accelerated their pursuit of Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, with Palace reluctantly accepting a bid of £35 million.

It was reported that Palace would sign Brighton defender Igor as their replacement, but that deal has now reportedly collapsed, putting the Guehi transfer in jeopardy. Talks are now ongoing between Glasner and Guehi to make a final decision.

Liverpool Transfer Window

It has been a busy summer transfer window for Arne Slot’s team, with a number of players moving to Anfield. Goalkeepers Ármin Pécsi and Freddie Woodman joined, while highly sought-after defender Giovanni Leoni arrived from Parma. Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez also joined for sizeable transfer fees. In attack, Hugo Ekitike and Florin Wirtz joined and will soon have Alexander Isak spearheading the Liverpool attack.

Whether Guehi joins remains to be seen, but this deal is going down to the wire.

Guehi has excelled since leaving Chelsea to join Crystal Palace. He will bring calmness and composure to the Liverpool defence, and at 25 years old has not hit his peak. Guehi is comfortable with the ball at his feet and has a good ability to pick out a teammate. He is a physical presence and times his tackles well. He leads by example, which will be a huge asset to this already talented Liverpool side. Having already captained Crystal Palace and played for the England national team, Liverpool will be eager to get this deal over the line.
