Birmingham also had a dramatic ending in their most recent game away at Blackburn, levelling the match in the 90th minute before celebrating a winner eight minutes into stoppage time. The League One champions drew against Ipswich on the opening day before winning at home against Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup.

The U’s have no new injury concerns but are still without Ciaron Brown, Przemyslaw Placheta, Luke Harris and Ole Romeny.

The Blues are in good shape for this fixture, with summer signing Marvin Ducksch the only absentee.

Summer signing Will Lankshear opened his U’s account at Hull, along with midfielder Cameron Brannagan in the 3-2 defeat.

Jay Stansfield has scored three from three for Birmingham, with Lyndon Dykes and summer signing Kyogo Furuhashi also finding the back of the net this season.

This will be the first meeting between the sides since Oxford won 1-0 in the League Cup in 2016, with Liam Sercombe netting in the 120th minute at St Andrew’s against Gary Rowett’s side. In fact, the U’s are unbeaten on their last three visits to the second city. However, Birmingham were victorious in the last league fixture in 1998, winning 7-1 at the Manor Ground, with Rowett also netting twice for the Blues.

Predicted line-up: Jamie Cumming, Brodie Spencer, Michal Helik, Elliott Moore, Sam Long, Greg Leigh, Cameron Brannagan, Tyler Goodrham, Siriki Dembele, Stan Mills, Will Lankshear.

Prediction: Birmingham City 2-0 Oxford United
