Leicester City Predicted Lineup Vs Huddersfield Town for August 13

Following a 2-1 victory over Sheffield Wednesday, Leicester City’s attention now turns to the Carabao Cup. Marti Cifuentes’ first game in charge saw City come back from behind and take all three points away from King Power Stadium. Goals from the unlikely duo of Wout Faes and Jannik Vestergaard summed up an underwhelming first game of the season. With the focus now on a trip up north, here is Leicester City’s predicted lineup as they take on Lee Grant’s Huddersfield Town.

How Leicester City Have Lined Up Recently

In Sunday’s victory, Cifuentes utilised his fluid 4-3-3 system for the first time in competitive action. Due to the departure of Mads Hermansen, academy graduate Jakub Stolarczyk started in between the sticks. Italian international Caleb Okoli lined up next to Vestergaard as centre-backs, whilst eventual match winner Faes came on at the 70th minute mark. Meanwhile, Luke Thomas and James Justin rounded off the backline as full-backs.

In the regista, Boubakary Soumaré started his first-ever game in the Championship. Oliver Skipp played in the box-to-box role, as he got the nod over fellow Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate Harry Winks. However, the two changed at the break as Skipp failed to assert himself in the game. Despite rumours of him leaving, Bilal El Khannouss completed the midfield with a terrific performance. Out wide, the deadly duo under Enzo Maresca returned, as both Abdul Fatawu and Stephy Mavididi started. Jordan Ayew rounded off the starting eleven with his first appearance in the EFL since 2016.

Leicester City’s Recent Form And Tactics

Although the Foxes did take the optimal amount of points, the performance against an ‘unstable’ Sheffield Wednesday side was disappointing. The first half was described by Cifuentes as being “below our expectations”, and that is fair considering City found themselves behind.

The decision to bring Winks on for the second half was incredibly positive from Cifuentes and a game-changing move. The Englishman took control of the game effortlessly, as the visitors looked to keep hold of their lead through a deep low-block. However, the more technical Leicester players like El Khannouss, Winks and Vestergaard were able to progress the ball through line-breaking passes.

Eventually, the Foxes were able to find goals through El Khannouss’ set-piece deliveries that perfectly found both Faes and Vestergaard. Overall, getting points on the board is important at this stage of the season, especially when the patterns of play and squad are still developing.

The fluidity and rotations were shown throughout the squad during the clash, as El Khannouss constantly dropped deep and towards the base to aid build-up. Although the high press wasn’t perfect and at times left the backline vulnerable, the other aspects of Cifuentes’ tactics were on show. One-touch passing moves like the one with Ayew and El Khannouss highlighted the kind of chances that City want to produce.

Leicester City Injuries to Consider

As revealed by the Spaniard, there are multiple injuries within his squad. Full-backs Ricardo Pereira and Victor Kristiansen remain sidelined, whilst a long-term injury has left Bobby Decordova Reid out of any City squad this season.
