Nottingham Forest Send ‘Official’ Bid for ‘Beast’ Defender Amidst Premier League Rivals Interest

The Premier League season is less than a week from commencing, and many clubs – including Forest – will still have business that they would like to conduct prior to this, in order to hit the ground running. The Tricky Trees scored just one goal across seven pre-season matches, and have failed to win a single one. However, Nottingham Forest have now submitted a bid for Soungoutou Magassa.

AS Monaco Want Higher Fee

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Nottingham Forest have sent an “official” bid for Magassa. The fixed fee of the proposal is around £11 million, though add-ons would be included. Magassa would become their fifth signing of the summer, after moves for Igor Jesus, Dan Ndoye, Jair Cunha, and the free signing of Angus Gunn.

However, AS Monaco want a fee of over £15 million for the 21-year-old, before add-ons; negotiations will be required. In good news, the player himself is “keen” on the potential transfer, with the prospect of both European and Premier League football a key factor in this. The CAS decision regarding whether Forest will play in the Europa League or the Conference League this season has not yet been made, but this does not seem to matter.

Meanwhile, West Ham have had their eye on the Frenchman this summer.

What Role Could Soungoutou Magassa Play for Forest This Season?

Having played at centre-back in his 2023/24 breakthrough season for Monaco, the “beast” may struggle to break into the first-team straight away. Murillo and Nikola Milenković were of the highest quality last year, whilst Morato provided excellent cover. Meanwhile, Jair Cunha has been brought in for extra depth,  Davd Carmo returns from loan, and Willy Boly is still at the club.

However, the upcoming season will include a lot of fixture congestion, with Forest playing European football alongside a league campaign and two domestic cup competitions. This may give him an opportunity to feature, but not just in the back-line. Magassa played as a defensive-midfielder last season, and has done so in previous years. He could potentially be brought in as depth for Elliot Anderson and Ryan Yates / Nicolas Dominguez, with the view of becoming the long-term replacement for the latter.
