Aston Villa Now Target ‘Cristiano Ronaldo Regen’ Though Must Fight Chelsea for Signature

Aston Villa had a strong 2024/25 season, finishing in fifth place and securing Europa League football, though they haven’t been particularly active in the summer transfer window. Their only real incoming has been Yasin Ozcan for around £6 million, alongside Marco Bizot as a squad goalkeeper. However, they reportedly now have a keen interest in Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United.

Aston Villa Kickstart Summer Business With Interest in Cristiano Ronaldo Regen

Alejandro Garnacho a Target for Aston Villa

Sky Sports Football are reporting that Aston Villa are “keen” on Garnacho as their first big summer signing. They have outlined that United want to sell the player, after he informed the club that he wanted to leave. Fans were outraged on social media after he posted a photo wearing an Aston Villa shirt with Marcus Rashford’s name on the back. The Red Devils are reportedly “focused” on sales after acquiring Bryan Mbeumo.

Unfortunately, the Villans are currently unable to meet the outright asking price for the Argentinian. However, United are interested in their striker, Ollie Watkins. Sky Sports suggests that while these two deals would be separate, a sale could help the Claret and Blue outfit finance a move, though Chelsea are also interested in the winger.

What Qualities Would Alejandro Garnacho Bring to Villa Park?

The 21-year-old, labelled as a “Cristiano Ronaldo regen”, could bring the perfect amount of flash to their wings. Currently, Watkins is an exceptional centre-forward, and Morgan Rodgers plays behind him in a unique shadow striker role. However, their wing options are largely support players: the likes of Jacob Ramsey and John McGinn are very much inverted wide players, whilst Donyell Malen and Leon Bailey are out-and-out runners.

However, Garnacho has the ability to pick up the ball and create something for himself. His dribbling ability is exceptional, whilst he has great finishing on either foot. In a gridlocked game where nothing is really working, a special player like this could pick them up crucial points. If Watkins was to leave, they would certainly need another starman in their side.
