Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou could be set for a return to management, with a MLS club said to be interested.

Ange Postecoglou Linked with Surprise Move to MLS Club

New Horizons Beckon Postecoglou

According to BBC Sport, Los Angeles are lining up Ange Postecoglou as their next manager. Their current head coach, Steve Cherundolo, is leaving at the end of this MLS season to return to Germany.

Postecoglou was sacked as Spurs boss just three weeks ago. But he may already have a new job in place come October.

Postecoglou’s Spurs departure was bittersweet for many fans. While Tottenham made their worst-ever Premier League finish under Ange, they finally won a major trophy for the first time in 17 years.

Tottenham broke the silence that had elapsed after winning the Europa League by making the decision to sack Postecoglou. At the time, the club statement cited the need for Spurs to be able to compete on multiple fronts, especially with Champions League football to play next season.

Should the move go ahead, Postecoglou would be reunited with former Tottenham Hotspur captain Hugo Lloris, who has made 71 appearances for LAFC. While the French international did not get a chance to play under Ange, leaving halfway through his first season, Lloris still speaks of the Australian with high regard.

Lloris described Postecoglou’s Europa League triumph as an “amazing achievement” and even he admitted that Ange’s dismissal was surprising.

He said: “Yes, but nothing can surprise you any more. I think he deserves a lot of credit for what he achieved as a coach and I think we all have to be thankful and grateful for what he brought, especially with this trophy.”

Currently sitting sixth in the Western Conference, LAFC also just finished bottom of Group D in the FIFA Club World Cup after suffering a late equaliser against Flamengo in their last group match.

Other Clubs Postecoglou May Manage Next

Postecoglou has also been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League. Al-Ahli are reportedly interested after they won their fourth Asian Champions League. Their squad features the likes of Edouard Mendy, Riyad Mahrez and Ivan Toney.

Briefly, there were rumours of Brentford being a possible destination for Postecoglou. But the Bees have just appointed their Frank replacement in Keith Andrews, promoting from within the club.

But as former Brentford and Leicester City manager Martin Allen points out, Postecoglou may favour having more of a break to reset.

Allen said: “He needs to have a good look at himself before getting into a new job, so I would be surprised if he goes straight back in somewhere.

“I think Premier League clubs will be interested in him, he’s done a lot of good things.”
