Man City Set to Lose Cult Hero – Chelsea Player Targeted as Replacement

Man City Planning for Life After Scott Carson – Marcus Bettinelli Identified

Chelsea Player Identified as Replacement

Scott Carson has left Manchester City after a number of seasons under Pep Guardiola. He joined the club from Derby County in 2019 and was known as a vital figure in the Eithad dressing room. Despite his lengthy stay, Carson only played two matches: a Premier League game against Newcastle in 2021 and a Champions League tie against CP Sporting in 2022, where City was defending a 5-0 lead from the first leg.

The 39-year-old was often praised by his teammates, including Ilkay Gundogan who highlighted Carson’s importance before the Champions League triumph against Inter Milan in Istanbul:

“When we got on the bus over to the hotel, I was sitting near Scott Carson, and obviously he had been a part of that Liverpool team that came back from 3–0 down against AC Milan in 2005,” Gundogan wrote.

Gundogan recounted what Carson said to the squad in Istanbul: “He said, ‘Don’t worry, boys. Every time I come to Istanbul, I leave with a Champions League trophy.”

Marcus Bettinelli – Possible Replacement

City will look to add a third-choice replacement goalkeeper, with Chelsea’s third-choice goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli tripped to take over.

Bettinelli moved to Stamford Bridge from West London rivals Fulham on a free transfer in 2021. He has only played once for the Blues, in a 5-1 FA Cup third-round win against Chesterfield in 2022.

The 33-year-old’s contract is due to expire on June 30, 2026, so a move before then may require a small fee, or Chelsea could agree to release the goalkeeper with Mike Maignan, the AC Milan goalkeeper a target for Chelsea.
