Celtic Predicted Lineup vs St Mirren for May 17

Celtic Predicted Lineup vs St Mirren for May 17

After thirty-eight games, the league season has come to an end. Yet again, it concludes in the East End of Glasgow, with the league title being lifted by the bhoys in Green. It is sure to be a party atmosphere in the afternoon sun against a St Mirren side looking to sneak into the top five. How will Brendan Rodgers’ side line up? We answer just that on Last Word on Football with our Celtic Predicted Lineup.

How Celtic Have Lined Up Recently

Celtic made ten changes at Pittodrie to the team that defeated Hibernian by three goals to one. Viljami Sinisalo returned to the side. The Finn has excelled in the brief run of games he has been afforded this season. In front of him, a back four of Anthony Ralston, Maik Nawrocki, Auston Trusty and Jeffrey Schlupp played.

Nawrocki excelled throughout the game. It wasn’t just his goal, which he took so calmly, but his all-around possession play was clean and precise. It was the type of performance that makes his lack of game time this season seem unexplainably harsh. Signed for over £4 million last Summer, he quickly fell out of favour at Parkhead and looks likely to leave this Summer. Either way, he won’t have himself to blame for his spell in the East End of Glasgow not working out.

In midfield, Luke McCowan and Paulo Bernardo came in for Reo Hatate and Arne Engels. The transition was seamless. McCowan increased his output this season to 10 goals. He is proving to be worth so much more than the £1 million that Celtic paid Dundee for him this summer.

Up front, James Forrest, Johnny Kenny and Yang formed a front three. The latter two got on the score sheet, but Forrest is still searching for his first goal this season. Should he succeed, it will be the 16th season in a row that the 33-year-old has scored for the Champions. Either way, his Wednesday night performance was outstanding, with a man of the Match award coming his way.

Celtic’s Recent Form and Tactics

Celtic’s 5-1 routing of Aberdeen meant they beat the 106-goal record of the 2016/17 Invincible side. They now sit level with the Lisbon Lions on 111 goals, although they did manage this feat in a 34-game season. In any case, one more goal and they would become the highest-ever scoring Celtic side over the course of a league campaign.

Since losing to St Johnstone, the Champions have shown why they will lift the trophy on Saturday afternoon. In six games, they have racked up 19 goals while conceding just two. Quite often at this time of the season, teams take their foot off the gas, not this Celtic side. The ability to rotate has brought in a freshness and excitement which has pleased the Celtic faithful.

Injuries to Consider

Dane Murray remains an absentee. Hatate will, unfortunately, miss the remainder of the season after suffering a tackle which Rodgers describes as “needless”. Alistair Johnson and Cameron Carter-Vickers return for selection.
