Newcastle United Ready to Rival Premier League Club for Bargain £30 Million ‘Phenomenal’ Forward

Newcastle United are looking for a strong end to their 2024/25 season after winning the Carabao Cup by defeating Liverpool in the final recently. The Magpies also seem to be planning for 2025 summer signings and are now firmly interested in Ipswich Town striker Liam Delap.

How Much Could the Delap Signing Cost?

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards has reported that Eddie Howe’s side are keen on a potential move to sign the 23-year-old forward in the summer window. It’s added that the Magpies management will also keep a close eye on the Englishman’s performance in their meeting with Ipswich Town in their next Premier League clash.

Edwards claims that Newcastle United have been tracking Delap’s development since he played in the Manchester City academy, and he remains a player of “major interest” to them. It’s further stated that they are also aware that Delap has a clause in his contract that will allow him to leave his club in the 2025 summer transfer window for only around £30 million if the Hatters are relegated to the EFL Championship.

The journalist adds that the Magpies are aware that Manchester United are also in the race to sign the English forward in the summer. However, Edwards claims that there’s a belief within the Newcastle United management that they can make Delap consider the possibility of joining them if they secure qualification for the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League.

How Can Delap Fit in at Newcastle?

Edwards further adds that Delap could be a different style of forward for their club as compared to their main striker Alexander Isak, and that there is a belief that the two forwards could even play alongside each other in Howe’s set-up. Delap’s physical prowess and link-up play ability could help free up the Swedish forward and help him get even more goals.

The Ipswich Town striker has enjoyed a prolific 2024/25 season so far, being a bright spark for Kieran McKenna’s side. The 22-year-old has scored 12 goals in 33 Premier League matches so far and was recently praised as “phenomenal” by his teammate Jens Cajsute. Newcastle United’s forward line can be significantly strengthened with the English striker’s arrival, but they’ll face a tough fight to get it done.
