‘Pinpointed as Priority’: Manchester United Ready to Compete With Chelsea for ‘Aggressive’ Forward Signing

Manchester United’s issues with scoring goals were summed up in their underwhelming recent 0-0 draw against Manchester City. Well, the Red Devils look to be planning to solve the problem by signing a new striker and have their attentions on Ipswich Town man Liam Delap.

How Much Could Delap Cost United?

ESPN’s Mark Ogden has reported that the Red Devils are now ready to rival Chelsea for the signing of the young English forward in the summer window. It’s added that they have identified Delap as a better option to sign over other striker targets like Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, and Victor Osimhen.

The journalist adds that Ruben Amorim is expected to be backed in the upcoming 2025 summer transfer market and that signing a new centre-forward is “pinpointed as the priority” within the club. Delap has been in impressive form in the Premier League this season, but the Hatters could lose him for cheap in the summer.

Ogden claims that the 22-year-old will be available for around £40m in the summer if Ipswich are relegated to the Championship. Interestingly, it’s also claimed that Manchester City have the option to sign him for that same amount in the summer, but they have no interest in bringing back their former striker anytime soon.

What Can Delap Bring To Old Trafford?

Delap joined Ipswich Town in the 2024 summer window and has been an impressive buy for them ever since. He has managed to score 12 goals in 30 Premier League appearances so far in the 2024/25 term, which includes goals against the likes of Chelsea, Aston Villa, and Tottenham Hotspur. He has actually scored double the amount of goals in the Premier League than what Rasmus Hojlund (three) and summer signing Joshua Zirkzee (three) have managed so far in the campaign.

The Englishman is a rugged forward who likes to trouble defenders with his physicality and ability to win key duels. He’s also proven himself as an efficient finisher by scoring so many key goals for Ipswich. The 22-year-old, who was hailed as “aggressive” by Alan Shearer earlier this season, also scored 35 goals in 36 appearances for Manchester City’s under-23 side before leaving the club.
