Nico Gonzalez is often used as the defensive midfielder with either Ilkay Gundogan partnering or playing solo with midfielders pushing ahead of him. Jeremy Doku and Savio are often the first options on the wing with Omar Marmoush, Phil Foden, Bernardo Silva, and Kevin de Bruyne tasked with trying to unlock a defence from the central positions.

Erling Haaland is, of course, the only option up front despite looking slightly less prolific than he has in the past.

Manchester City Recent Form & Tactics

Despite moving to a more attacking variant of his tactics, Pep Guardiola’s side have found it tough to break opponents down. The 4-1-4-1 base is more prone to transitions with the defensive midfielder and centre-backs left to do a lot of the work in recycling possession. Despite this they were kept scoreless by Liverpool and Nottingham Forest and only got one against Real Madrid in a must-win game.

The club’s form is mixed with two wins in their last five, one of which came in the FA Cup. Despite that they’ve managed to make it to fifth in the league and are still in touching distance of Chelsea in fourth. What could hold them back is their defense which is finding it difficult to keep clean sheets.

Manchester City Injuries to Consider

Per PremierInjuries the team will be without a lot of the long-term absentees that fans will be used to missing. Rodri, John Stones, Oscar Bobb, Nathan Ake, and Manuel Akanji are and will remain sidelined.

Manchester City Predicted Lineup

The question for the manager becomes how he adapts to playing the high-press of Brighton & Hove Albion. The 4-1-4-1 didn’t work against the more counter-attack-focused Nottingham Forest but by having a deeper two he managed to get a result against Tottenham Hotspur which could see a midfielder join Gonzalez and play deeper.
