Bayern Munich Midfield ‘Ace’ Extends Contract Until 2029

Bayern Munich finally have clarity regarding their most consistent performer in midfield. After a lengthy back and forth, the German national team captain Joshua Kimmich signed a contract extension until 2029 on Thursday. With this key pillar of the Bavarian giants’ squad in place for the years to come, the club hierarchy now have a trio of key players to build the future Bayern Munich team around. Alphonso Davies and Jamal Musiala have signed new contracts until 2030 in February, which is what makes the Kimmich contract extension all the more significant.

The Importance of Joshua Kimmich Contract Extension

Bayern’s midfield “ace” has been at the club for a decade and is set to become the team’s captain once Manuel Neuer and Thomas Müller retire.

Before he suffered a minor injury against Eintracht Frankfurt late last month, Kimmich was the only player in coach Vincent Kompany’s side who had played every minute of every game up to that point.

This confidence that the Belgian tactician who arrived at Bayern in the summer placed in Kimmich and the way that the latter paid back that trust by excelling on the field, opened the door to this agreement.

Given Kimmich’s relatively high salary for the club’s standards, along with the team’s historic lack of success last season, Bayern’s hierarchy seemed quite willing to offload their number six and rebuild. Now the rebuilding process will take place around Kimmich instead of without him, as pointed out above.

Final Thoughts

The Kimmich contract extension and also those of Davies and Musiala are major accomplishments by two relative newcomers to the Bayern board, namely sporting director Christoph Freund and sporting CEO Max Eberl.

After some years of chaos in the front office, Freund and Eberl have brought much-needed clarity and hopefully some calm to the club that used to be known as FC Hollywood.
