The Red Devils have confirmed that they have agreed on a new contract for the 19-year-old forward. The youngster’s new deal runs until the end of June, 2028 and there is also an option for the club to trigger a one-year extension to potentially extend it to 2029!

Wheatley joined the Manchester United academy at the age of nine and has come up through their academy. He has voiced his delight at being able to tie down a longer contract with his childhood club, stating on his Instagram: “Amazing feeling to have signed a new deal with this great club. Another proud moment for me and my family.”

How Has Wheatley Performed This Season?

Wheatley is currently on loan at Walsall, who are currently on top of the League Two table. He joined them in the 2025 January transfer window until the end of the season, but the Red Devils opted to give him a contract extension before he returned to them. The 19-year-old has only made three appearances for Walsall, but was also been praised as an “incredible athlete” by their head coach, Mat Sadley, when he arrived at the club.

The young forward only made one appearance for the Red Devils in the 2024/25 season, which came in a five-minute cameo in the win over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup. Before his move to Walsall, he also made nine appearances for Manchester United under-21 in the reserves Premier League, scoring six goals. Wheatley made his debut for the Red Devils in their 4-2 win over Sheffield United in the 2023/24 Premier League season, making history by becoming the 250th academy graduate to play for the senior team.

Considering how young striker Chido Obi Martin is getting more playing time under Ruben Amorim, Wheatley will look to end his loan spell on a high and perform strongly in the 2025 pre-season campaign to earn a place in the senior squad.
