Crystal Palace rejected a bid of £70 million for Marc Guehi from Tottenham Hotspur over the weekend in a hectic 24 hours for the London side who are desperate for defensive reinforcements. Last Word on Football looks into the failed deal and a Spurs team scrambling to improve a side placed 14th in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace Reject Tottenham Hotspur Bid for England International
Marc Guehi Set to Stay at Crystal Palace
The rejection of Spurs’ bid means Guehi is set to stay at Crystal Palace until at least the end of the season. Last summer, Newcastle United saw four bids for the 24-year-old rejected. Chelsea also showed interest earlier in the window but instead recalled loanee Trevor Chalobah from Selhurst Park.
Guehi’s contract at Palace expires in 2026. This means that his value will only decline unless the England international extends his stay at Selhurst Park. The Eagles are leaving a lot of money on the table to keep the 24-year-old for the rest of the season. The exit of Chalobah seems to have left the Premier League’s 12th-placed side desperate to keep their captain. However, sitting 13 points clear of the relegation zone, it may have been a smarter move for the London club to take the money while they can.
Transfer Chaos Continues at Tottenham Hotspur
The Guehi news adds to a manic last 72 hours for Ange Postecoglou’s side. Spurs have seen deals for Mathys Tel, Fikayo Tomori, and Axel Disai collapse as they look to improve their struggling squad. Even after completing a move for Lens centre-back Kevin Danso, Tottenham could still do with another defender. This comes after Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge reported that Radu Dragusin’s injury could be worse than first feared.
The £21 million move for Danso was Tottenham’s first outfield signing of deadline day. This is simply not good enough for some fans with the side sitting 14th in the Premier League. Despite their league position, Spurs are still in all three cup competitions and have a chance to finally break their trophy drought this season. They’ll need to fight their injury crisis with new signings to do so.
